Polar Expedition Guide CV

WORK EXPERIENCE

Polar Expedition Guide, present

I am currently scheduled for seven Svalbard trips with Polar Latitudes as an expedition guide and marine biology lecturer June 16th to August 10th

Artist, Self-Employed at A Million Tiny Lines, 2018 -present

My main goal as a professional artist is to not only inspire a sense of wonder and awe of our natural world, but also to educate on the threats it faces and the need to conserve it. In the past several years I have participated in artist residencies all over the world- from the cloud forests of Ecuador to the high Arctic of Svalbard. During these residencies I have given countless artist talks, lectures on nature and wildlife, and have been included inmany exhibitions, shows, and open studio events. Because I utilize my art for the purpose of education, I am a creative and enthusiastic communicator. I love sharing my passion and knowledge with people, and am very comfortable speaking to large audiences. I strive to make every lecture and presentation the best it can be, and am always ready to go above and beyond to ensure a fantastic and educational experience.

Professional Rock Climber and Guide, Five Ten and Adidas Elite Team, 2015-2018

While most of my work as a professional athlete involved hiking, scaling walls in the alpine backcountry, and extreme adventure, some of my favorite work involved people! I often guided new climbers on climbing expeditions, where I would teach wilderness etiquette, rope systems, and climbing skills. I loved introducing people to the natural world in a way they’ve never experienced before. It was, and is, also very important to me that my guests felt safe, comfortable, and confident, and had a positive experience that made them feel good about themselves and about their environment.

Rock Climbing Gym Employee- Instructor and Front Desk, Flagstaff Climbing, AZ, 2012-2015

As a gym employee, customer service was the number one priority- after safety, of course! I taught climbing lessons, ran a technique and movement clinic, organized and led kids birthday parties and adult events and team building programs, and had a bright smile and a warm greeting for everyone who approached when I was behind the front desk. I also dealt with plenty of adverse situations, from kids tantrums to safety incidents. I learned to stay calm, collected, and professional at these times and to ensure the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of the guests and of gym employees.
